Premiere: dBridge & Madison Willing ‘Set Me Free’

Exit Records boss dBridge has collaborated with film composer and producer Madison Willing on a new EP, ‘Made In Silence’. 

The making of the four-track release took place over roughly three months in 2021, during which time the artists exchanged ideas solely over text message, hence the title. dBridge had reached out to Willing after hearing a self-released album she had put out in 2020. Marrying the drum & bass and autonomic innovator’s lucid beat science with Willing’s orchestral ambient soundscapes, ‘Made In Silence’ is a masterclass in cinematic and emotional electronic music.

Willing explained how collaborating in silence allowed the release’s production to become a deeply personal experience, particularly on the track ‘Set Me Free’, which you can hear below. “I revealed that I was going through a break up, which left me feeling liberated and free after a toxic relationship had shattered my confidence,” she said. “‘Set Me Free’ began with the dark, heavy beat dBridge had sent to me, which inspired me to vocalize how I felt. The vocal sample is an honest voice memo recording of how I felt at the time. dBridge responded by adding a beat at the end of the track after the break, ‘to represent you moving on’. The chords are hopeful because I was grateful I had my life back.”
