Premiere: Baby T ‘I’m The One’

Baby T (AKA B.Traits) will launch her Banshee label with a new EP, 'Shee Punk 01’, later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘I’m The One’ below.

The corrosive four-tracker (out 27th July), follows Baby T’s previous outings of “hardcore junglist shit” on labels including CPU and Samurai Music, reaching back into her raving roots for sources of inspiration in the present.

Since dropping her techno-focused B. Traits alias back in 2020, Canadian-born producer Brianna Price has been wreaking havoc at the intersection of jungle, dystopian electro, and breakcore as Baby T. On ‘Shee Punk 01’, this comes to a searing boiling point.

Brimming with hefty broken beats, jungle flavours, and quivering synths, the project artfully traverses BPM and hybridises genres. ‘Free Thinking She Punk’ fuses its breakbeat core with throbbing bass and ample low-end wobble to get both hairs and arms raising, while ‘Get To It’ kicks into second gear with mutant looping synths and funky 303 sweeps.

B-sider ‘Ultrafunkiller’ is not for the faint of heart, manoeuvring through 90 seconds of apocalyptic air-raid siren synths and humanoid yelps, before a fizzing electro-jungle rhythm offers a whisper of respite. While ‘I’m The One’ rounds out the darkest and most danceable Baby T project to date, unravelling slowly around an ear-worming vocal hook until all that’s left is a simmering 4/4 kick and the remnants of Price’s disquieting electronic palette.

The project draws on the technical expertise the producer acquired as B. Traits, and melds it with the fearless, hardcore philosophies of the jungle raves and d&b nights where she cut her teeth as a teenager. Price’s new label will adopt a similar no-fucks approach, drawing the “esoteric aggressive feminine energy” from the folkloric figure that gives Banshee its name, and centering primarily around the future of the Baby T alias.
