Building on the free-wheeling sound design of her 2023 EP, ‘Up And At Them!’, alongside fellow YCO co-founder BFTT, the English producer returns to the label with a solo suite of acrobatic, dub-singed club material with a hyperpop sheen. All proceeds from the project – which lands this Friday (23rd February) – will go towards the artist’s facial feminisation surgery (FFS).
aya’s first solo venture since her debut LP, ‘im hole’, for Hyperdub, is sugar-rush-inducing, embellishing deconstructed club sounds with her irresistible experimental rave energy.
Opener ‘Essente!’ is a particularly fierce affair, with deep-set, industrial basslines and tumbling bars from Ugandan rapper and MC Ecko Bazz, whilst bonkers banger ‘Lip Flip’ – which features aya’s post-dubstep alter ego, LOFT – is best described as “one for the hessle crowd.”
The EP kicks off another year of bubbly club experiments on aya and BFTT’s YCO imprint – home to releases from both artists, alongside the likes of georg-i, Henzo, Small Car NRG, and more.
