HIV Campaign At Festivals

Dance fans and clubbers at festivals this summer will be urged to join a campaign to help the fight against Aids/HIV.

Dance fans and clubbers at festivals this summer will be urged to join a campaign to help the fight against Aids/HIV.

International charity ActionAid will be taking over the chillout area at Hi:Fi festival, near Newcastle on Saturday 27th May, and will be petitioning at Global Gathering and Reading Festival too.

ActionAid want every reveller at the festivals to pose for a photo holding a message to politicians.

The photo messages, which will be designed to look like records, will be sent to MPs and uploaded to an online gallery.

Brendan O' Donnell, ActionAid youth campaigns manager, said: "Over 40 million people worldwide are living with HIV and AIDS; 95% are in developing countries; but only 1.3 million have access to life saving treatment.

"World leaders and UK politicians are on record promising to provide treatment to all those who need it by 2010 – and we want to ensure that they keep their promise."

ActionAid will also be asking artists to join the campaign.

Last year the Killers, Razorlight and Roots Manuva all backed ActionAid's Trade Justice (Bollocks To Poverty) campaign.

ActionAid International works in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas to fight global poverty and tackle the injustice and inequity that cause it.
