Goldie appears in court via Facetime from Thailand, pleads “guilty” to assaulting security guard
“Yep, guilty as charged”
Goldie appeared in court via Facetime from his home in Thailand this week, pleading guilty to the assault of a security guard at last year’s Glastonbury festival.
After the judge refused to further delay the hearing for the drum & bass innovator and actor – real name Clifford Price – he plead “Yep, guilty as charged” over email.
When this was not accepted by district judge Lynn Matthews at Bristol Magistrates' Court, he appeared in the courtroom over Facetime. Phoning in from his current residence in Thailand, he confirmed his admission of assault by beating, saying to judge Matthews, "Correct my dear".
Replying to Price, judge Matthews told him that she was not his “dear” and told him that he must appear before the court for sentencing on 30th May or face being issued a warrant for his arrest.
Goldie, who was awarded an MBE in 2016, had been charged with assaulting Glastonbury bouncer Dennis Poole on 23rd June 2017 after he had refused him and his daughter, Chance Price, entry to the backstage area of the festival.
Miss Price (20) was also charged with the same offence but the court heard that charges against her would be dropped once her father had been sentenced.
Ever outspoken, the former DJ Mag UK cover star last year said that gentrification had “fucked clubbing” and that the current state of the UK scene was “bollocks”. He also potentially revealed the identity of the mysterious graffiti artist Banksy last year in an interview with Scroobius Pip.
