Flights to Tomorrowland could be cancelled due to air staff strikes

Visitors to Tomorrowland’s second weekend (27th -29th July) may face travel concerns following the announcement of planned strikes from Ryanair staff.

Fórsa, the workers union representing Ryanair cabin and ground crews, announced last week that they would hold a 48 hour strike between 25th and 26th July which could affect flights to and from locations including but not limited to Spain, Italy, Portugal and Belgium. This is worrying news for anyone hoping to travel to the festival, which takes place in Boom, Belgium.

This news comes after the announcement that roughly 100 Ryanair pilots based out of Dublin airport would be holding a 24 hour strike on 12th July.

All of this comes after years of conflict between Ryanair staff, The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and the airline’s CEO Michael O’Leary. As reported in The Telegraph, back in April at a summit held by ITF pilots and cabin crew put together a list of 34 demands which O’Leary subsequently deemed “pointless”.

Ryanair have expressed on their social channels that they have been contacting Fórsa in an attempt to halt planned strike action but as it stands no definitive agreement has been reached. However, no planned strike in Ryanair’s 33 year history has ever gone ahead, so there is hope for Tomorrowland visitors planning on travelling those days that all will be okay. Nonetheless, perhaps alternative plans should be looked into.

Last week, the festival revealed the full timetable breakdown for both of its enormous weekends. Tomorrowland tickets started to arrive in this year’s treasure chest, themed around 2018’s The Story of Planaxis. That was after Tomorrowland creative director Christophe Van den Branden revealed that the festival is set to look “totally different” this year.
