DJ Koze's new single ‘Pick Up’ is a soulful disco masterpiece: Watch

“I guess neither one of us wants to be the first to say goodbye...”

DJ Koze has shared the third track to be lifted from his new album ‘Knock, Knock’. Following psychedelic venture that was ‘Seeing Aliens’ and the stunning ‘Illumination’ with Róisín Murphy, ‘Pick Up’ is an emotive disco cut that serves as the album’s soulful centrepiece.

The track finds Koze at the peak of his sampling form, taking instrumental and vocal cuts from Melba Moore’s ‘Pick Me Up, I’ll Dance’ and Gladys Knight & the Pips ‘Neither One Of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)’ – the latter of which you will certainly recognise as the same vocal sample from Midland’s ‘Final Credits’.

With these samples propping up the track’s steady groove and addictive melody it is just another example of Koze’s ability to create a mood that is at once introspective and emotional while remaining dancefloor focussed. We can imagine this track being the highlight of many a summer festival set this year.

The track comes paired with a minimal lyric video with tongue-in-cheek added subtitles, all put together by animator Terlina Lie and Zoran Bihać: “Brain realizes song consist only of these few elements”, “Boys trying to shazam the tune”.

‘Knock, Knock’ is set for release on 4th May via Koze’s own Pampa records. You can pre-order it here.

Koze will be playing at this Belgian castle alongside Omar S, Call Super b2b Objekt, Jayda G, Laurent Garnier and more this summer. Hydra will also be hosting DJ Koze's 'Knock, Knock' album launch at Printworks on Saturday 5th May along with Mano Le Tough, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Nathan Fake (Live), Chloé, Auntie Flo and more. You can get tickets for that here.
