Dave Smith Instruments rebrands as Sequential

The return to their original name comes 40 years after the release of the Prophet-5...

Dave Smith Instruments has rebranded as Sequential, part of the name once used by the company when they created some of their most iconic instruments. The change comes after Yamaha released the rights to the Sequential name in 2015. Sequential Circuits was the name of the original company Dave Smith founded in 1974, which went on to make the Prophet-5, Pro-One, DrumTrax and Prophet-600 – the world's first MIDI-equipped synth.

Their more recent products like the Prophet-6, OB-6 and Prophet-X, as well as his collaborations with Pioneer DJ have all gained acclaim from producers and musicians alike, with Dave Smith saying "the best part is that we have the same sense of excitement and enthusiasm for making the world a more creative place as we did 40 years ago. Sequential is back, better than ever."
