COMMUNITY PROJECT EXPLORES DANCE STYLES

Converse CONS Project in London presents Journey Through London Sounds

Converse CONS Project London is a global community project down in Peckham’s Copeland Gallery in South London, designed to inspire the next generation of creative talent through a series of seminars, workshops, exhibitions, parties and more.

The two month calendar of music, art, style and skate has been curated and developed by CONS ambassadors including James Benenson of Found Festival and Hyperdub producer and Rinse FM legend Scratcha DVA.

James’ Journey Through London Sounds is a three-part music and club culture series exploring London’s musical underground and showcasing the seminal electronic genres birthed in the city, from UKG and jungle through to bass music and future sounds.

Fabio & Grooverider, Foundation and Zed Bias (pictured above) kicked things off on a garage and jungle tip earlier this month, whilst Saturday 12th July welcomes T Williams, Hatcha & N-Type with Crazy D, and Elijah & Skilliam with D Double E for a bass fest of epic proportions.

But it’s not just a rave up — the series includes seminars such as The Birth Of A Cultural Movement and Creating The Visual Identity Of Music, there has been a screening of Ewen Spencer’s Brandy & Coke along with exhibitions from Simon Wheatley and his Don’t Call Me Urban show and Sarah Ginn’s upcoming Sleep Deprivation.

Meanwhile, Scratcha has been mentoring London’s best bedroom producers with a series of three-day production workshops where budding talent can come together and learn how to record, master and press a track to vinyl alongside mentors including Scott Garcia, Brackles and Deadboy.

Whatever Scratcha and the other ambassadors are teaching them seems to be working, as garage don Zed Bias has added a couple of the tracks produced under his mentorship to his set-list. Whilst three radio production workshop attendees have been asked to pilot radio shows for Peckham station Reprezent.

There’s loads more happening down at CONS Project London too, from skateboarding sessions to art workshops — so check it out all through July.

The next Journey Through London Sounds is Saturday 12th July and the final installment of the series is July 31st. The next Mix Lab Session runs from 18 — 20th July. Check here for more information on all CONS Project London events
