Cape Town Gets Serious

Cape Town is to host its first major international club tour in February 2007, and top DJs and promoters will be heading for a two-week clubbing blitz...

Cape Town is stepping up its challenge to become a world-class clubbing destination, after plans were revealed for the city to host a top-notch two-week club tour.

Although Cape Town is a long way off from reaching Ibiza status, the Global Breakthrough tour, organised by LoveCapeTown.com for next February, will give travel-mad clubbers the chance to rave at some of the most exotic locations that South Africa has to offer.

Big UK promoters like Global Underground, Defected, Azuli, Renaissance, Pushca and Toolroom Records have all organised parties for the tour.

It's reckoned a UK-clubber will need around £900 to cover the cost of flights, accommodation and club entry to eight special events.

Raise Profile

Renaissance's head honcho Geoff Oakes reckons that the tour will raise Cape Town's profile in clubland.

"It's been five years since we last held a Renaissance party in South Africa," said Geoff.

"It'll be good to get back and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. Our event will be in the surroundings of a magnificent castle with James Zabiela headlining, and it's going to be a great setting for Cape Town to experience his unique blend of music."

Mark Knight is excited about the tour too. "Having been involved the first time round, the party was amazing and the scenery across Table Mountain was second to none," said the Toolroom Records boss.

"I can't wait to get back to the mad atmosphere, we had it kickin' and we'll do it again!"

MTV are also in on the act, and will be filming Global Breakthrough for broadcast later in 2007.

February 2007

Lee Burridge, Steve Bug, Ame, Clive Henry, James Zabiela, Cass, Norman Jay, DJ Spen and Mark Knight are just some of the DJs playing in Cape Town from 17th February - 3rd March 2007.

Apart from clubbing, South Africa has a lot to offer the more adventurous traveller, with shark diving, bungee jumping and stunning scenery part and parcel of a trip to the country.

Like Ibiza, the onus of booking flights and accommodation is on you, but with a no-queue priority club pass available to all of Global Breakthrough's parties for just £80, you can bet your credit card statement will be a damn sight easier to swallow than after a trip to the White Isle.

Launch Party

Global Breakthrough have organised a launch party in London this Thursday (9 November) at The Key, in Kings Cross, London.

Some of the DJs booked for the tour will be playing on the night, including Dino Moran (who's flying in especially from South Africa for the event, Clive Henry, Cass, and Shane Watcha.
